Who’s Who @ 4TheRcrd

We’ve recently hired another dozen new writers so please look for new BIOs shortly. Here are the BIOs for the senior staff who kept things running ever since day one. Before you know it… we’ll have 40+ bios on here.

These are the brilliant people that made 4TheRcrd tick since day one ;)

Britt Tuckey

britttuckey_bio.jpgBorn and raised in the majestic city of Vancouver, Britt only grew to fully appreciate its glory until she wrenched from it painfully and thrust into a new country for two years. Now that she’s back, she enjoys the clean air and her favorite weather - the frequent rains. She is a delicious confusion of polar cynicism and, conversely, romantic idealism. She has a hard time making any big decision, but decidedly will always love Vancouver.

Dave Niddrie

Dave NiddrieDave Niddrie is a Vancouver-based freelance photographer and writer. As a former staffer at Adbusters and current contributor to Momentum, CBCr3 & Maisonneuve, Dave feels ready for big news & uplifting surprises. He is a cyclist, concert junkie, and lover of those elusive ‘out there’ sights & sounds. Drinking mate, listening to ‘musique avant garde’, hiking in the woods, watching Deadwood, fixing up bikes and shooting pics are what makes him tick. That, and dreaming of a return trip to Argentina sometime soon.

Jark Krysinski, Editor-in-Chief & Publisher

bio_jark.jpgJark (”Yark”) is many things. He’s always been a writer, but now he’s also a Law Student, Activist, Coffee Importer & Music addict. Hence his only medication is more epic books, epic cases, epic activism, epic beans, and epic sounds. Degreed in Philosophy & Linguistics oh too long ago, when he’s not re-reading Chomsky or Derrida for fun, he’s re-organizing his library at home, playing 18 games of scrabble over brekkie and, on a good day, when the sun is out till the night draws nigh, find him sipping sangria and dancing up a storm to some of his fave electro-Funk lineups. In his mellow moments, he spends his spare time reading all your comments ;) So keep em coming.

Jackie Connelly

jackieconnelly_headshotBR.jpgJackie Connelly is a Vancouver photographer that shoots everything to do with food: the people, the locations, and of course, the food itself. Her passion is working with businesses that promote sustainability, healthy food and lifestyle choices, and protecting our environment both globally and locally. She has learned that shooting for food clients usually results in being able to eat the food after the work day is done…for the most part this is a good thing. Jackie’s portfolio can be viewed at www.jackieconnelly.com.

Julia Kozlov

bio_julia.jpgA Freelance Photographer who can frequently be spotted photoshooting people downtown, Julia is Russian, was born and lived in Uzbekistan. She loves to write, and tends to combine her passions for photography and writing into one big bowl of ideas. Forensic Psychology and Criminology are her career paths and some of the other things that dominate her life are: Un work, working with *at-risk* youth, making a difference in the world along with spotting out new places in Vancouver.

Kamal Arora

bio kamal aroraKamal was born and raised locally but splits her soul between Vancouver and India. A recent MA graduate, she moved back to Vancouver after spending time abroad in the UK and India on research and fieldwork. In her spare moments, when she’s not working as a resource coordinator for a local HIV/AIDS organisation, Kamal can likely be found doing one of the following: sitting at a coffeeshop near you with her nose in a book, gossiping with her lovely friends, daydreaming about future travels and/or academia, or endulging in a yoga class or a bollywood movie. A feminist since birth, Kamal enjoys bringing her gendered insights to 4TheRcrd.

Karl Yu

bio_karl.jpgA Content Editor by day and Sports Journalist by the light of the moon, Karl can be seen air guitaring to the likes of Zakk Wylde and Eddie Van Halen and lip synching Ozzy Osbourne lyrics in his spare time. A hardcore sports fan, he can be seen living and dying–mostly dying–with his favorite sports teams. He has spent many a night pondering the fate of Tony Soprano and eagerly awaits the release of GNR’s Chinese Democracy.

Katie Raso

katieraso_BIO.jpgKatie Raso is a displaced Albarion (part Albertan, part Ontarion) who is in the process of creating some kind of life in this Vancouver. An SFU Communications student, she can often be found exploring new methods of procrastination, or nerding out over mad science theories. When not immersed in the avoidance of school work, Katie enjoys breakfast foods, volunteers with DTES media projects, makes stellar mix cds, and explores the wilds of her new found city.

Marnie Pitchford

MarnieBioPic.jpgBorn and raised in Toronto, Vancouver has been home for 10 years. Marnie has satisfied her traveling itch, but only scratched the surface of fascinating regions like S.E Asia, China and Israel. Following these travels, Marnie spent one year in the massive and exciting city of Tokyo. She is lucky to have had the opportunity to travel throughout Japan and experience such a beautiful culture. Marnie graduated SFU with a bachelor of Communications minoring in Psychology. Her passion has always been writing, music and being a social butterfly. She is excited to be part of the 4TheRcrd Magazine team.

Quentin Muhlert

quentin_small.jpgQuentin is a food-borne Vancouver critic, cycling enthusiast, and musician. A UVic alumnus, he can usually be spotted at his favourite cafes, chatting up the servers. Q loves sandwiches, sushi, portobello mushrooms, and dogs. He does not eat dogs. To Quentin, most important factors for a great restaurant are: friendly service, location, and a love of good food. He thinks the poutine in your cafe is too salty, but will be polite when mentioning it. Quentin is also a news-hound and is quick to get into political discussions… maybe over lunch?

Rob Fillo

ROB FILLO bio picBorn into a loving family at age 72, Robert A Fillo has progressively become younger. Currently at age 25, he’s a budding journalist with a taste for change and a strong belief in humanity. “We can make a difference, we have to start now and we have to start in our communities. If you don’t like the place you’re living, imagine how you want your community to be and take steps to make that image your reality.” (RAF) Rob is full of fire and brimstone, yet he has his lighter moments as well. ” I like to like life. I try to write about serious issues that I’m passionate about as well as more jovial articles. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by the horrible events and people in the world. If you forget the good parts of life and people, you forget what we’re fighting for.”(RAF) www.robfillo.com

Sara Bynoe

sarabynoe_bio.gifSara is an actor and writer based in Vancouver who grew up under a big sky. She enjoys getting her money for nothing, yoga and playing with garage band on her iMac. She hosts Teen Angst nights (www.TeenAngstPoetry.com) where she encourages others to share the embarrassing (a)musings they created in high school when no one understood their pain. Her writing has been published in The Tyee, The Globe and Mail, ION and various other artsy magazines, as well as her anthology Teen Angst: A Celebration of REALLY BAD Poetry (St. Martin’s Press). For more random info visit www.SaraBynoe.com.

Simon Ogden

SimonHeadshot2.jpgSimon is a playwright-in-residence for Vancouver’s Lyric Stage Project, which means he spends most of his spare time working on his masters in work avoidance at his theatre blog, The Next Stage. He pays for his theatrical ambitions by tending bar and is fully aware that it just doesn’t get any more cliché than that. He is dealing with it, as well as being a schnoodle owner with a stoned wheat thins addiction. He is also working on a handsome collection of busted drum heads, if anyone is looking to get rid of any.

Tina Wilson

Tina Wilson About pic.jpgHailing from the Island, Tina jumped ship and moved to England after graduating from UBC in anthropology. Now back on the Wet Coast, Tina seeks her thrills in the areas of fashion, design, sustainability, art and cooking. She always knew she should have been born in the 1940s since her passion for all things vintage is slightly extreme (i.e. she has glasses circa 1956 that she had her own prescription fitted into). Always trying to be different, she makes a lot of her own clothes and is working on a vegetarian cookbook.
