There’s definitely a boxing buzz growing in this city and I like it.
Three months ago the River Rock Casino in Richmond held the first Rumble at the Rock event to a sold out crowd–by all accounts a huge success.
Since then there have been other boxing cards including one recently at the Croatian Cultural Center featuring Vancouver-based pugilist AJ Bone and this coming weekend, Oct. 27 to be exact, the good ole’ River Rock is holding a sequel.
Dubbed Rumble at the Rock II, it will feature six bouts and the under card will include the likes of cruiserweights Kevin Reynolds and Paul Tyrl; Ross “The Boss” Purity, who is the former WBC International Champion; Super Middleweight Junior Moar and Middleweight Roberto McLellan to name a few.
The main event will see Mark Woolnough from Qualicum Beach battle Californian Tim Shocks for the CAM Super Middleweight title.
I love boxing not just for the scientific aspect but the pageantry that comes along with it and there was definitely some of that at a pre-fight press conference two weeks ago.
Junior Moar, who will square off against Claudio Jose Ortiz aka The Bull, threatened to break his ribs.
“I’m the real deal and that’s no joke,” Moar went on to say.
I honestly think the boxing seeds have been planted for bigger and better boxing cards in the future.
We’ve got a good venue, local talent and even a little trash talk going into the Rumble at the Rock II.
