When I took a stroll through the downtown core today and I saw ads in pubs telling fans to “watch the Canucks here”, I knew that fall had arrived.
Canucks fans though, aren’t too picky where they watch their team whether it is live, at a bar or in the comforts of their own home so long as the home team wins.
Two games into the season, fans have been treated to two games on TV.
The season opener vs. the Sharks was shown on Sportsnet and Game 2 in Calgary was the second part of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada doubleheader.
Today’s game against the Philly Flyers will be available at the usual licensed establishments and via a recently more expensive seat at G.M. Place.
You can also watch it at home on the couch, but for a nominal fee.
A number of Canucks games have been available through digital cable Pay-Per-View for a few years now, but along with a recent ticket price raise came an increase in the cost of PPV as well.
Fans don’t seem too pleased with the hike in tickets and PPV rates.
As a poster named BurnabyJoe said on the Canucks message forum”[Censored] Canucks organization for taking the flyers game!”
“It’s BS Let everyone see the games and hey! maybe let people affordably [sic] attend.”
“If we’re paying for it, it should be in HD! Sometimes last year, the quality was worse then the non ppv games,” said member Captain Can.
Games have gone from $9.95 a game to $12.95 and are available on channel 280 on Shaw Digital.
