Unfortunately not all International Women’s Day celebrations were as fun-filled as the ones here on 4TheRcrd. In Iran, the containment of women’s gatherings in the past kept women from celebrating publicly and this year, many women confined themselves to gatherings in their private homes. Last year, 10 women were arrested on International Women’s Day at a rally in front of the Iranian Parliament.
A few days ago in Saudi Arabia, activists posted a video on Youtube of a woman driving a car to protest the ban on female drivers.
Meanwhile with our neighbours down south, an Oklahoma man was not charged for violating the privacy of a 16-year old girl in a department store when he put his camera up her skirt and took pictures. The court voted 4-1 in favour of 34-year old Riccardo Ferrante. Why, you ask? Because she was in a public place.
[Author’s Note March 14: This week, a fabulous open letter to all feminists calling for solidarity with Palestinian, Arab and Muslim women was also published].

so because she was in a public place it justifies him invading her personal space? what a complete violation. it makes me sick…
Yeah…the girl was shopping in Target. The judge said “the person photographed was not in a place where she had a reasonable expectation of privacy.” How gross!
