Mastering the Master Cleanse: Part II

Day 2: Monday

I received a lot of comments and admonitions from loved ones on my doing the cleanse. Taking advice from my brother (a medical doctor) and others, I decide to do a three day version rather than five days. I did a short work out as usual and prepared for the salt water flush. Drinking 32 oz. of salt water in one sitting is possibly the nastiest feeling I’ve ever experienced – I stopped when I literally gagged and vomited after making it through ¾ of the stuff. The rest of Monday is pretty easy. Oddly enough, I don’t experience any hunger pains at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite; I’m so grossed out from the flush in the morning that I can only manage two cups of lemonade throughout the whole day. At night, I feel jittery, tired and cold. My hands and feet are freezing, so I go to bed with toe warmers given to me by the 4TheRcrd’s lovely founding editor.

Day 3: Tuesday

I wake up at 5 am because my stomach hurts; I’m still freezing and feeling weak. I find it strange that I’m not hungry despite the fact that I haven’t eaten for over 60 hours. I’m a bit worried about my low energy and check my blood pressure: it’s 98/66, and although my blood pressure is generally low, this seems a tad too low. I’m no expert on these things, but it feels like winter is the wrong season to be doing a cleanse. I have a feeling that I’d be a lot more energetic if the weather was a bit warmer. Although I’m not hungry at all, I can’t handle the cold and I feel like my body is giving me warning signs. I look up fasting in my favourite Ayurveda book and my suspicions are confirmed: the book advises not to fast in very hot or cold weather. It also advises that, according to my Ayurvedic body type, I should only fast for a maximum of two days. I’m a lover of Ayurveda so I take this to heart. I’ll see how the rest of today goes…

we should call today day three already darlin’ — as you’ve been doing this for 60 hours now, haven’t you? Either way, a brave thumbs up for you and, for what it’s worth, sangria on me next time.

I dig that Ayurvedic medicine doesn’t approve of cleanses during hot/cold weather — kinda like yoga and hot days, something I’ve been hearing about more and more also. These extreme externalities so often dictate… and overwhelming much don’t they.

How’s the family with all of this — anyone bugging you about the cleanse?

Gotta admit I’m not a fan of cleanses. Filed under fad diets in my opinion. Props for the dedication though!

The family is cautious but supportive! I think yoga during hot weather is ok as long as its not too extreme - I used to do it in India all the time in hot weather, and survived.

I did the cleanse as more of a mind and body purification thing rather than a fad diet. Although, with one look at message boards on the internet, it seems that many people do sadly use it for such purposes!
