I don’t have a problem with learning but, I tell ya, how pedagogic can youtube really be? Private learning is taking off but, “currently, there are lots of entertaining, very low tech, how-to vids attracting big virtual crowds. Most people are ‘visual learners,’ as my middle school guidance counsellor would say — it’s just easier to do something once you’ve seen it done.”

Is media talk about the Coquitlam skytrain (the Evergreen Line) route just a distraction from the VCC-line politics? “Karagianis says if and when the project goes ahead, the government must make sure local merchants are spared the fate of their Cambie Street counterparts affected by the Canada Line project.”

Bush is stuffing his mouth again: he again referred to the mushroom-cloud analogy that preceded the invasion of Iraq, this time suggesting a nuclear-capable Iran could trigger World War Three. Dude, you now face criticism for inventing a threat that your own intelligence service had determined did not exist. The true significance of the report is how it has exposed, and how badly dyslexic your words are.

Newspapers are the thing of tomorrow, indeed. Bravo to the bloggersphere: “It was clear that news was bubbling up from the street and onto webpages in new, diverse and powerful ways. It was clear that niches were aggregating and telling their own stories. It was clear that smart young men and women were launching new ventures that were catching fire. Clear to everyone except for the folks who strode the floor just above our heads.”

I suppose this means that the future of ink on our fingers will eventually come to an end. I wonder though, if in the present the internet can really be a “mass media” due to the digital divide and still-limited access in certain parts of the world. Of course, there are also a whole range of issues when you compare the two media. What does a newspaper enhance and the internet make obsolete, and vice versa? I wonder what Marshall McLuhan would say. xo
