Interview with: The Yesterdais

http://l.yimg.com/www.flickr.com/images/spaceball.gifI’ve been flirting with Randy Kramer, one of the bandmates with formerly called “The Yesterdais” — presently renamed to The Green Hour, as of July last year — and another 4TheRcrd writer Nathan Pike and, wouldn’t you know it: we started thinking of some interview material that was oozing out of our conversations.  So, in line with our alpha-show-off natures coupled with our uber-detailed way of being, here’s a little dialogue to feast your theatrics-nerve on.

> (1) How did you get started as a musician?

I used to play drums in a garage band when i was 16 then got into more ambient music later on

> (2) What and who were your influences?

I used to listen to stuff like Mum and Sigur ros, bjork, more organic sounding music I guess you could say. which kinda goes hand in hand with 60’s psychedelica, kinda really molded into something for me personally.

> (3) Who do you work with and why(team, sidekicks, gold peeps)?

Our friends are our inspiration and we keep our friends close

> (4) Are the disappearing independent live gig venues of Vancouver affecting you guys?

Not really I guess there all turning into jock sports bars now with 102inch plasma screens, doesnt really bother us, i think we dont really want to play in vancouver much longer any how, id really like to see more all ages venues sprout up somewhere

> (5) What does Vancouver need in the way of a “music scene”?

Deeper thinkers, seems like everyones thinking is as deep as their acid soaked dred locks hanging from thier scalp on commerical drive, or as deep as the bowl of rice im eating right now, they think it just ends at one point where i eat this one rice and thats it, but they dont realise theres different kinds of rice that can go in the bowl, maybe noodles and everyday im going to eat a different bowl. Seems like alot of bands really just stick to whats safe, where they think , oh im a metal band so every songs going to be guitar guitar guitar yelling screaming heavy breakdowns. The thing thats inspiring about the 60’s psychedelic movement, is that anything goes, flutes, guitar, strings, harpsichords, synths, shawms, sitars, tabla, tambura, horns, tape loops and the list goes on, and even bands like the beatles can play really heavy songs for example helter skelter, it seems like they just did what they want and didnt give a shit,. We have aquired instruments and we want more, though we try to stray away from digital, because its more exciting and rewarding hunting for the real deal, and work with what instruments you have until you find it.

> (6) What did you think of the last Daft Punk show? Do you even like Daft Punk?

I like there robot suits and vocoders.

> (7) What are your plans for the next season?

I think we’re trying to get out of Vancouver.

> (8) How can our regulars find your work?

Its not published yet, but im sure they can find on the internet.

> (9) What would you do with 50,000 dollars today?

Invest in microsofts stocks because there apparently trying to overthrow google

> (10) Any other questions you’d like us to ask?

I dont know.
