She has turned around a lot of forest harvesting policy throughout the world to protect old growth and boreal ecosystems. For more information on what ForestEthics is about, click here.

I heard a great interview at the Tyee a while ago, and here are some notes about it. If you want all logging to stop and you are trying to negotiate with a logging company you can’t exactly say: “we want you to grow out of business.” Even though that’s what so many environmentalists want, you have to know where to draw the line, and I dig that Ms. Berman understands that.

Did you know that 97% of all logging that is done in North America is clearcutting — whereas only 3% is selective and semi-sustainable farming. Well, if that amazes you, I think you’d want to see Ms. Berman say her spiel and, perhaps afterwards, get involved in a few very imminent local and transnational issues: climate change, temperature increases, clear-cutting, and rain-forest preservation, among others.
