Did you know that acts of non-violent civil disobedience against the war in Iraq could bar you from ever returning back to Canada after a holiday, after a short-trip, provided any of the Canadian security databases have records on you being unsympathetic to the war efforts in Iraq or elsewhere. Yes, this is not the US, and yes, this is actually happening.
Let’s talk about other borders: did you know that “it is estimated that our food travels between 2500 and 4000 miles before reaching our plates…” and that, yes, it is indeed way cheaper to grow locally.
Quality is not just the first reason why you should support farmer’s markets: did you know that just by buying food from a farmer’s market you’re actually helping the farmers work more sustainably? Get this: “Institutional buyers tend to offer lower prices than farmers would receive in retail outlets like farmers’ markets; however, these prices are still higher than wholesale prices.”
If the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) endorses the precautionary principle relative to our uses of Pesiticides (see, Hudson v. Spraytech ), our Labeling of GE foods, then why (1) are we stilling accumulating more data by additional studies and, more importantly, why (2) do we not enforce Provincial and Municipal legislation to enforce such precautionary principles.
Flocks are petitioning online for the 24-hour skytrain — let’s face it, transit should be catering to everyone, most importantly “Doing so would keep vehicles out of downtown, offer an alternative to pricey cab rides home, and cut back on drinking and driving.”
Why doesn’t North America score so well in their preventative medicine practice — with the US ending up last among all the comparable Western countries (including Europe), Canada ranking 6th, and France and Japan sparring for 1st place.
