Don’t Frett! Plenty ‘a Music Gigz this Week! But remember, you can still add to this list!

Wed., July 04, 2007. MODERN LIFE IS WAR! @ The Sweatshop Skatepark (1820 Pandora St.), 7:00-11:00PM. Tix. Unknown.
Modern Life is War is headling this little shindig. I must admit, I’ve never been to this Skatepark so I’m looking forward to it. Other guest-acts playing tonight: Set Foot, Finish Him, Anxiety Attack.

Thu., July 05, 2007. ORDER OF EAGLES @ The Plaza Club (881 Granville St.), 12+/- (unconfirmed), 9:00PM.
This is the hickoff of their western Canada tour, stretching out till the 22nd of July. I’m stoked to see Mongoose — run by some of my oldest pals (Rc Clark & Shokker) this evening as well. Also with: RED HOT LOVERS, WHYTE HOT. The Order of Eagles next Vanvouver show after this one is on August 24th, at the The Media Club (695 Cambie St.) (YAY, with the Manvils!), so you’ll have to wait a while. Go see them NOW.

Thu., July 05, 2007. DOCTOR DOCTOR’s LAST NITE EVER @ Club 23 West (23 W. Cordova) 9:00PM, FREE BEFORE 10:30.
Doctor Doctor is ending. Shocking, isn’t it? They’d like all you people to come out, if only to watch the band get so drunk that they spout off racial slurs and fall down after little prompting. ELECTRO! RETRO! DANCE PUNK! & DRINK!

Fri., July 06, 2007. THE BATTLES, GET HIM-EAT HIM, YOUNG & SEXY @ Pat’s Pub (403 E. Hastings St.), 8:00PM, $10+/-.

These guys are trecking on a round-US tour as we speak, with venues lined up for the whole of July. They sound like The New Pornographers, Broken Social Scene, The Wrens, The Shins, Enon, Teenage Fanclub, Squeeze, Ted Leo. If you like these influences, see them, they will be well worth it.

Sat., July 07, 2007. VANCOUGAR, THE PEOPLE VERSUS, THE SAFETY @ Pat’s Pub (403 E. Hastings St.), 9:00PM, $10+/-.
Eden Fineday sings for Vancougar, a four-piece group, boasting classic pop with a knowingly ramshackle edge. Their vast reserves of style, taste, and wit, and a kind of natural chemistry that inspires the rest of us to start our own bands, these guys are going to be worth seeing. On the splendidly titled debut album “Losin’ It” all their personality is somehow squeezed into 10 tracks of peerless indie-rock bubble gum, driven by a sense of fun so infectious, as if somebody started rolling tape at the world’s hippest slumber party.

Sat., July 07, 2007. LISH CD RELEASE PARTY @ The Anza Club (3 W. 8th Ave.), 7:30PM. $6+/- (UNCONFIRMED)

Vancouver’s original acoustic pop/rock duo. Welcomes you to the release of Love Is Soul Healing EP along with guest performers Cody Westman & Eileen Rothe.

Sat., July 07, 2007. ELASTIC CABARET @ The Lamplighter (210 Abbott), 8:00PM.
I found out about this from Interior Design, a Shicker project. Scatterheart, Hilary Grist, the Bella Donnas and Bradley are performing that night. It should be stellar. Shocker is one of the Mongoose boys, so if you dig them, see him here… he’s a tremendous virtuoso on his guital, I am always inspired. Same goes for his latest CD, astounding.

Sun., July 08, 2007. BEAT IT! FREE CONCERT @ Ron Basford Park (Granville Island). 2:00PM-3:00PM, $FREE.

There’s a few FREE Concerts series going on around Vancouver, starting with Granville Island. The 1st is Japanese drumming by a well-known group, Uzume Taiko. Apparently, according to the Georgia Straight, it’s rare to see them having a free concert at all.
