Vancouver Masquerade 2007: Local Phantasmagoria

20070629_Masquerade02.jpgI’ve never prepared a mask before. Yes, I’ve made costumes with my sweetie before, but I can’t tell ya I can whip one up without one or two sewing emergencies. Luckily I’m not alone in this endeavor, Dressew, or my favorite Costume stores, my darlin’, and me — this quadra will take us to the stars of fashion masquerades.

I consider this our local phantasmagoria — something out the concept “Carnival” — or the social event of the season, in the eyes of a local fashionista-designers. It is a formal ball, with costumes but it is NOT a costume party. My question for the reader is: how sexy are you going to look @ 7:30 tonight? Now that school’s out for so many budding designers and the like, I think all shall be genuinely impressed with what pre-Shambhala designs are going to emerge; but are you going to be a part of it?

So, consider this a Coy Invite to The Masquerade!

Be prepared with a mask & a “Formal” costume of any era. Absolutely no street, casual wear or plain work clothes will be admitted! Categorically NO plain jeans, NO cargo pants or Formal Suits are permitted unless part of an “ensemble” - e.g. a suit-jacket as part of a dirigible captain’s costume is perfectly fine.

Some ideas for formal dress include: Fantasy or period costume, tuxedo, dress uniform, Victorian gowns, traditional ethnic, fictional character or futuristic, a book character, anything out of ‘Blade Runner’, or ‘Miller’s Crossing,’ or even ‘Dangerous Liaisons.’ Use your imagination! Creativity is highly encouraged and deeply appreciated — and lack thereof is severely punishable by refusing admission. Please note once again however, that this is a formal ball, not a costume party. If in doubt please don’t hesitate to ask the organizers; they say that they would be happy to help! See you out there!
