OK, I’m a film buff, especially films with content and meaning. I’m planning on trekking to two of such films after my West Coast Swing Class tonight, to show thanks for all my privileges and luck in life. LAND OF SILENCE AND DARKNESS and THE MIRACLE WORKER are premiering at 7:00PM, @ The Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour Street) and should have a full house in attendance. What do these films talk about?
Today is the finale of the Deafblind Film Week, coupled with a fundraiser for another cause, besides Breast Cancer. The Deafblind Services Society of BC has done a great job putting this on. But I gotta tell ya, they haven’t promoted this thing enough — with all the fluff about Jazz Fest, events like this have fallen below radar. Remember, today in British Columbia there are over 250 people who are deafblind, they constitute an enormous minority and warrant the rest of us to be thankful for what we’ve got: sight, hearing, and speech.
There will be on-stage interpreters signing for deaf/hard of hearing individuals through both films.

THE MIRACLE WORKER: The story of Anne Sullivan’s struggle to teach the blind and deaf Helen Keller how to communicate.
