Join us! A slew of Vancouverites are marching to protest Canada’s presence in Afghanistan this weekend, Saturday, June 23, 2007, @ 2:00pm - 5:00pm. WHERE? At the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) at Robson & Howe. Why am i going? I’m taking a few friends of mine, who need a good drag of cross-cultural perspectives in their life. I think anyone politicized will be there, especially young activists who, aside from Aca(dummia), are single-handedly educating the young people here in Vancouver about Canada’s role in global oppression and imperialism. So, you are wondering, what is this march all about?
This march is all about awareness and responsibility. The people who are putting this on, MAWO, Mobilization Against War and Occupation, is a coalition of over 50 endorsing members, most of which are labor unions, student unions, Indigenous groups, Women’s Organizations, and groups from the third world. These are the groups representative of the people in struggle globally, because they are people that suffer at the hands of imperialism. Similarly, they are also the ones with the the energy, motivation, and drive for change, and it is in all our interest to help make this happen! Read on…
MAWO’s call for an Independent Public Inquiry into Canada’s war drive in Afghanistan is an integral part of the struggle to open and unpack the question and seeming necessity of Canada’s occupation of Afghanistan. This question must be tackled not just by Academics but must be left open to debate within the communities of working, poor and oppressed people in Canada, within communities of students, and also those of activists, and all other groups who are consistently denied any voice in the government of Canada’s unanimous decision to enter this war drive.
Let’s talk and march together!
