“Joint Effort” Fundraiser for Women in Prison

20070605_WomensPrisonsPost.jpgThis article calls on you to get involved, AND let us know what politics concern you! This article is about Prisons, and how you can make an impact on their dire reality. I am writing to tell you about Joint Effort, an independent local women-in-prison support group, which organizes weekly programs for women “inside”. As an abolitionist and a former student of Karlene Faith (an absolutely amazing scholar on Prisons and North American liberation movements for the last 40 years), I will delight in dragging my friends to this thing. I think we should all inform ourselves on women’s incarceration, considering that three years ago a flock of women’s prisons were closed and its “inmates” were moved into Men’s prisons in Burnaby, and beyond. Does the average Vancouverite know about Decarcerative measures, and why they are so very important?

So? Thinking about some spring cleaning? Doing some downsizing? Trying to figure out what to do with all that stuff you don’t want? Drop it by on Sunday June 10th (the earlier the better) and at the same time, find yourself a new summer outfit! Support the grassroots work of Joint Effort, and have fun doing it!
