We’ve got the scoop on this new French Bistro in Gastown, Jules. While wandering the cobbled streets of Gastown, Shallom and I happened upon this little bistro and were pleasantly suprised at the quality of the food and the service. After having the halibut, fruit salad and an iced coffee, this is what we have found, and what we must opine, overall. Our halibut was juicy and tender with a lightly-seared crust. Served on a lovely bed of delicately-cooked lentils and topped w/ whole baked saffron shallots and sweet potato, organic greens and fresh-ground pepper, it proved to be a lovely and light dinner for us both. The fruit salad, served with a bit of liqueur sauce, was a naturally sweet top-off to the digesting body.

20070513_JulesRest01.jpgThe bistro’s owner, Stephan Gagnon, was very charming. He made sure to look after us, keeping the patio heaters well lit, while Linda our waitress was friendly & gracious, promptly topping off our water and confirming that food was delicio. A few sips of Jules’ coffee indicated a slighly bitter espresso at the house, albeit with relatively good cremma. I would suggest checking out the coffee at LUGZ, to give ‘em a taste of what good espresso can do.

The atmosphere both indoors and out was very cute, very French. Shallom fell in love with the Parisian-style patio sets, not to mention the eye candy - whoever said that Vancouverites aren’t a fashionable bunch needs to take a visit to Gastown. In our time at Jules, she was continually amazed at the stylish people seen in the restaurant and walking the streets.

We both recommend a visit to Jules, and we’ll definitely be returning in the future, to have a taste of the other items on their menu. For those of you watching your budget, don’t fret - the prices are quite reasonable. An appetizer will set you back about $9, a dinner entree around $15, with a delicious dessert for $6. Portion sizes, as you can see from the picture, are generous - so you get a nice amount of food for your buck.
