Submissions deadline is over in 4 days to one of Vancouver’s main music-events, the (New) Music Waste Festival. Music Waste has established itself in Vancouver as a kind of a grass-roots new music underground. This year we’ve got a lineup of 40 bands around town (many of which are actually local!), showing off what they got, in the span of only a few days: June 7 to 10. A few facts to know about this fest if you’re a music-goer, are: First, as per last year, you “should” be able to walk there, as all the venues will likely be relatively walking distance to each other, this is awesome. Second, it is a time and a place to see alot of underground music that represents Vancouver’s diverse musical energy, some of it unfamilliar to many. And third, it’s affordable, in that most shows shall be had for about Five Bucks, which is “keeping it cheap” as MW’s website boasts. BUT, if you belong to a band, or if know anyone who does, and think y’all are interesting and are interested in performing, I say two words: “Hurry Up!”. Once again, submission deadlines are May 1st, which is the Tuesday, next week.
I read the straights post about this and i think it’s useful to quote: The Georgia Straight reports that Music Waste organizers “are getting amped to bring local artists into the limelight. Event planners hope the indie-music fest showcases more Vancouver talent than May’s outsider-heavy New Music West.” My expectations are peaked! Does anyone know anyone who’s playing, or heard of any rumors? Let’s keep each other posted more on the lineup as it comes in closer to the event dates!
