A true friend calls me up and says i should persuade myself to see Damien Rice tonite, and i did. A bit of charm goes a long way, so i found myself at a seat at the Vancouver Centre for Performing Arts tonite. Albeit, i wasn’t allowed to take pictures. Which is good because the true man within was ballling or wiping his face for a chunk of time there…

The entirety of the band on tour with Rice at the moment is - Joel Shearer, Shane Fitzsimons, Tom Osander and Vyvienne Long. And i should say, what a powerful duo, nonetheless: i think everybody cried. But i did notice the absence of Lisa Hannigan, who performed vocals and, of course, ocassionally played guitar as well as bass. Allegedly she left the band to pursue her own projects. If you missed Damien Rice tonight, rest assured he’s going to play at the Coachella Festival, on day 3 of the fest. If you’re not sure how Vancouver relates to this festival, how about as it’s next closest city, no less, and secondly because the vast following we give to local and not-so-local talent. Just how hungry we are for artists like Damien Rice again, to speak of one artist for example, could be evident by the flocks of vancouverites trecking to Coachella. I may cover it soon.
